Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy gives you a chance to analyze and prospect the various areas of difficulty or problems of your life. It starts with you sharing information about yourself, your life and your problems.  Psychotherapy for me is the possibility to question every option, have the freedom to consider the possible outcomes and consequences of our actions and to have the time and space to decide what can make you happier, prouder and fulfilled as a human being or as a couple.

How effective is psychotherapy?

As per the Canadian Psychological Association, psychotherapy is equally effective as the medical treatment of depression and rather more effective in averting relapse. According to professionals, employing psychotherapy as the first technique of intrusion for social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, some phobias, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is most advisable.

Is psychotherapy covered by OHIP?

No, psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP, however most extended health insurance plans cover psychotherapeutic services. You can submit my invoice to get your refund if your plan includes the services of a psychotherapist.

How should I know if psychotherapy will work for me?

Psychotherapy is a case-by-case evidence-based treatment. Past records and research have proven that most clients show a reduction in their symptoms post psychotherapy.

How would I know about the number of psychotherapy sessions I need?

The number of sessions you need depends on the goals of your therapy that will discussed with you during the first session. Typically I ask for 2-3 sessions to explore your concerns and our interaction. Then we will review your goals and we decide whether or not to extend your sessions.

How long is a session of psychotherapy?

Generally, psychotherapy sessions are 50-minute long sessions. At the end of each session, I use 10 minutes to make my clinical notes and deductions from the meeting. It is essential you arrive on time to be able to attend the full duration of the appointment.
